Junblat and Syria
The Monte Carlo radio on Friday quoted the speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih berri as saying that there are attempts for not intensifying the situation and relations with the Lebanese chairman of the Progressive Socialist party Walid Junblat, noting that there are attempts made to contain him ( which means to normalize relations with the Presidency in Damascus.)
The radio said that the question of relations with Damascus was the focal point of the meeting held by several Lebanese leaderships which called for joining a calm and constructive dialogue which can exceed the campaign against the Syrian presence in Lebanon and contribute to preserving political stability.
The radio continued that in this context falls the visit which might be made by the Maronite Patriarch Ma Nasrullah Sfeir to Damascus on the occasion of the Pope's visit John Paul II to Syria in May.
The radio commented on what was stated by Sfeir to the London- based daily al-Hayat on Friday in that he goes where the God Almighty wishes, by saying that these atmospheres where religion and politics are mingled to a great extent show that this visit ( Sfeir expected visit to Syria) seems as a recognition of Syria's role.
