Mubarak and Moussa

Originally published

In its commentary on Sunday, the German radio station questioned why the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak give up his foreign minister Amr Moussa despite the fact the he ( Moussa) is a story of success in the Egyptian government, especially as the Middle East region enters a new phase at the meantime.

The commentary added that Amr Moussa resembles the late President Jamal Abdul Nasser in his unique deep vision in the region, noting that, according to observers, Mubarak is planning to prepare his son Jamal as his successor and that a man like Amr Moussa may constitute a bulwark before the ambitions of President Mubarak.

The commentary expected Egypt's role in the peace process to be diminished in the Middle East peace process as a result of Moussa's absence from the Egyptian foreign ministry.

In this respect, and in two separate interviews with the US " Washington Post" and "Newsweek " President Mubarak said on Sunday he is not preparing his son to succeed him in power.

He added " my son will not be the next President. And you have to forget this matter." Replying to a question on rumors on whom will succeed him Mubarak said: " we will try to find a vice- President. I have been reviewing several names," noting a difficulty in the selection.
