Originally published

Morocco's ambassador in Germany, Abdeladim El Hafi, launched on Saturday construction works of a mosque in the German western city of Bergheim (Cologne).

The mosque, scheduled to cost 3 million Marks, will comprise a 444 square meter-praying room, a separate praying room for women, a kitchen, conference halls and a library. The mosque, with a capacity exceeding 1,000 persons, was designed by Iraqi architect Mohamed El Janabi who said it will be topped by five domes but will not have a minaret.

Saudi Arabia is also contributing to the project for which the local Islamic cultural association has raised funds from the Moroccan community and other Muslims in the German city.
