US, Britain to tighten sanctions on Iraq
British sources in London said on Tuesday that Britain and the US are drawing plans to tighten sanctions imposed on Iraq through expanding the scale of civil trade and deploying UN inspectors along the Iraqi borders with the outer world so as to minimize smuggling activities from and into Iraq.
The sources which asked not to be identified said that one of the suggestions studies at the meantime by Britain and the US is to permit countries neighboring Iraq to buy the Iraqi oil at reduced prices so as to avail these countries to deal with Iraq within the framework of the oil-for-food program.
The sources explained that this proposal is debated after the two countries had failed to tighten sanctions against the rule of the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and the strong criticism the policy pursued by Washington and London against Iraq. A policy which is damaging to the Iraqi civilians.
