Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Mohamed Sayed Tantawi, during his meeting with the US committee in charge of religious freedom yesterday, said the Islamic Shariaa lined up with the religions freedom.

"AL Kosheh incident was not a result of religious difference but of individual motives, " Tantawi said noting that Al Azhar rejects any attempt to dictate a view or guardianship on the Egyptians.

The Muslims and Christian Copts in Egypt are peacefully living in co-existence, said the Grand Imam, noting that there is no discrimination between the Muslims and Copts.

Egypt is at the forefront of the countries that respect the religions freedom in the world, he said, referring to his continuous fraternal meetings with Pope Shenouda II of Alexandria and Orthodox Coptic Church as well as a number of Christian figures.

"There is nothing called violation of religions freedom in Egypt," he said.
