Egypt calls for giving technical assistance to developing countries
Egypt called on the international community to channel technical assistance to developing countries to enable them enhance their institutions in using information and taking decisions, said Egypt's permanent delegate to the UN.
This came in a statement by Ambassador Ahmad Abul-Gheit after the United Nations Economic and Social development committee ended its preparation ahead of the 9th session of the Sustained Development Committee.
The committee will convene in April to discuss issues related to improving the environment, such as energy, transportation, international cooperation, and use of information in a bid to create a climate suitable for sustained development.
The Egyptian diplomat said the meetings, which saw obvious participation on the part of developing countries, rejected endorsing any standards for sustained developments before all governments review them.
The meetings also studied in detail taking certain measures in favor of freeing restraints on the imports of developing countries.
A number of meetings were held in parallel with the committee meetings this week to discuss the role of information in decision-making and international cooperation in making a better environment.
During the discussions, Abul Gheit stressed the necessity of coordination and avoiding dualism of information requested by international organizations from states because this imposes a huge burden on developing countries and deplete their institutional power.
Egypt, during the meetings, called on the United Nations to keep its central role to protect the coordination and harmony of information and indices used at the international level.
Egypt called that indices should also measure how the developed countries honor their commitments in advancing assistance.
