The chairman of the Palestinian National Council Salim al-Zanoun has stressed the possibility of convening a Syrian- Palestinian summit on the framework of the Arab summit due to be held in Amman on March 27 as the Syrian foreign minister has previously announced.

In a press conference he held in Amman, al-Zanoun added that the Syrian- Palestinian final reconciliation will be made very soon and preparations have been made for it.

He added that the expected meeting between President Bashar al-Assad and Yasser Arafat on the sideline of the coming summit, will settle " many matters." He explained, that before now, all attempts to make reconciliation were doomed to failure because of Damascus's reservations on Oslo and the unwilling of the ( old Syrian team) to open lines with President Yasser Arafat.

The last Syrian- palestinian summit was held during the Arab summit held in Cairo in 1996 and had together Arafat and the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad in the presence of the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Arafat had a protocol meeting with President B ashar al-Assad during the funeral ceremony of the late President al-Assad on June 13, 2000.
