Football: Morocco ties with senegal in world cup qualifier

Originally published

Morocco tied 0-0 with Senegal in a World Cup qualifier played Saturday in Rabat.

The Moroccans were unable to break the strong Senegalese defense, blending physical freshness and high skill.

The first half was marked by an unorganized play by the Moroccans who lined up a midfield made up totally of young players.

Morocco's Portuguese coach, Humberto Cuelho, realized the shortcomings of his team in the second half, putting on the pitch Gharib Amzine and Walid Raghragui, whose contribution gave a new blood to the Moroccans.

But, the Senegalese did not succumb, despite the Moroccans' continuous attacks.

The match wound by a draw that maintained Morocco on top of Group C with 6 points, followed by Algeria with 4 points. Senegal, Egypt and Namibia come third with 3 points each.

Next March, Morocco will be exempt, while Egypt will receive Algeria and Senegal will play Namibia in Dakar.
