Senegalese first lady in Morocco
Senegalese first lady Viviane Wade is currently on a visit to Morocco to take part in the regional forum on child protection held this February 15-19 in Rabat.
Ms Wade conferred on Tuesday afternoon with Princess Lalla Meriem, sister of king Mohammed VI and chairwoman of the National Child Rights Observatory.
She later on visited the observatory where she heard explanations on the institution activities and goals.
The observatory, set up in 1995, ponders on all issues related to childhood at the legislative, social and educational levels. It instituted in November 1999, at the initiative of Princess Lalla Meriem, a free phone line put around the clock at the disposal of children victim of violence, abuse or any form of ill-treatment. The observatory ensures the medical and legal follow-up of children victim of such abuses.
Ms Wade hailed the initiative that she described as a pilot experience and lauded the Moroccan civil society for its mobilization to promote child's rights.
Ms Wade sponsors several activities in Senegal in favor of children mainly in matters of health and schooling and sponsors fund raising campaigns to finance children-destined projects.
