Inter-civilization dialogue probed by Islamic group

Originally published

The Islamic group at the United Nations started to hold a series of meetings to probe the issue of inter-civilization dialogue.

The UN has set this year for holding activities, seminars and celebrations to discuss ways to advance dialogue among the various civilizations throughout the world, deepen understanding and to find a common round among cultures and peoples.

The Islamic Ministerial Conference held in Kuala Lumpur in June last year, endorsed an agenda for an international action during the coming decade to activate this dialogue.

The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) formed an expert committee to forge procedural measures to put this agenda into effect.

Egypt's Permanent Delegate to the UN Ahmed Abul Gheit, said Egypt, out of interest in this dialogue, is working out a number of points which it sees vital to render this dialogue successful and to ensure its continuation.

"Egypt sees that this dialogue should be based on equality and objectiveness and the fact that there is no culture or civilization which is more sublime than others," he added.
