'Smiles in the Steppe' photo exhibition
In the framework of the humanitarian activities funded in Syria by the European Union Humanitarian Office ( ECHO), the Italian NGO MOVIMONDO Molisv has organized the photo exhibition " Smiles in the Steppe" to represent the Bedouins life in the Syrian steppe.
The exhibition will be held from 7th to 14th of February 2001 in Khan Asaad Pasha in the old city of Damascus.
The photos on show, which were taken by the Italian photographer Giorgio Palmera, have been inspired by the ECHO funded project that MOVIMONDO Molisv has implemented in co-ordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian reform between October the 1st 2000 and January the 31st 2001.
Through the project, the European Union has supported the nomadic populations living in the Syrian Badia who have been victims of the drought and have seen their herds depleted. Assistance has been provided to the most vulnerable among the nomadic population, particularly though the distribution of animal feed.
The organization of the photo exhibition was made possible by the active co-operation of the ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Syria and the European Commission delegation in Damascus.
