The world bank and Lebanon
The Chairman of the World Bank James Wilingston, currently visiting Lebanon, has denied any link between the World Bank WB giving of aid and loans to Lebanon and the request to send the Lebanese army to the South. In a statement to the Lebanese daily al-Safir issued on Tuesday, the WB chief added that the WB does not impose any political pressures concerning its loan policy.
The chairman of the WB recommended Lebanon not to proceed in foreign borrowings, describing that as a mistake. He simultaneously said he does not oppose extending the grace period to loans offered to Lebanon, dedicated for several projects.
