Human rights center reveals Israeli police torture against Palestinians

Originally published

A Palestinian human rights organization on Saturday revealed Israeli means in torturing Palestinian detainees, including psychological and physical torture.

The Gaza Center for Rights and Law said in a report on torture in Israeli prisons, a prisoner is detained first in a dark room, then questioned after midnight in very small rooms where he stands in front of the investigator handcuffed.

The report said physical violence is used and the prisoner is usually threatened that his wife or sister would be brought and raped in front of him if he does not admit usually fabricated charges.

Among other torture methods, the report said the Israeli security leave prisoners handcuffed and force them to sit on a small chair for 12 hours over 20 days, causing them swollen legs and rheumatism in addition to unbearable physical and psychological tiredness. The prisoner's eyes are also left blindfold with a thick textile bag on the head, causing a lack of oxygen.

The report said that prisoners are also deprived from sleeping by putting loud music and are always insulted when given food or when they are allowed to go to the bathroom.

The report also said when investigators fail to extort confessions, they use administrative detention for long periods, a detention that does not need a legal procedure and depends only on an intelligence report that the prisoner is dangerous for Israel's security.
