Egyptian big activities in Davos Forum due to open today

Originally published

Hundreds of officials, businessmen, CEOS of major international companies and chiefs of NGOS from around the world will meet on Thursday at the annual world economic forum in Davos, the Swiss mountain resort.

Foreign Minister Amr Moussa and Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Youssef Boutros Ghali will represent Egypt.

The two ministers will hold several encounters with governmental officials and representatives of the private sector and international financial organizations on the sidelines of the forum.

The meetings aim at explaining the developments of the Egyptian economy and the policies pursued by the Egyptian government to raise the economic growth rate and open new markets for Egyptian exports.

"The participants this year will float a number of new initiatives, including an initiative to bridge the technological gap between rich and poor countries," sources at the forum said.

Another initiative seeks to enhance the performance of the international economic order through monitoring the performance of international financial institutions so that the world public opinion can assess the achievements made by such institutions to counter the world's main ten challenges.

These challenges are the growth of poverty, social injustice, environment and health care problems, the abuse of human increase seen in the technological gap between the poor and the rich, armed conflicts, the absence of economic stability and the increase in crime rates.

The sources said the participants at the Davos forum want to develop cooperation during this year's gathering and create a better understanding between large international companies and NGOS under an initiative raised last year to enhance social and living standards in developing countries.
