Spanish socialists against reprisals for non-renewal of fishery agreement with Morocco

Originally published

Spain's socialist labor party (PSOE) said it opposes reprisal threats against Morocco by some milieus which want to block the transit of Moroccan exports to Europe, in case no fishery agreement is reached with Morocco.

The PSOE spokesman was quoted by the Spanish news agency (EFE) as saying in case of failure to reach an agreement with Morocco to resume Spanish fishing activities in Moroccan waters, the socialists will oppose any reprisal measures against Moroccan goods and emigrants. He called fish professionals to identify those responsible for the impasse in talks.

The Spanish government representative in Andalusia (southern Spain) called the local fish professionals to be more patient and abstain from fruitless violence acts against Moroccans living in the region.

Spain trade union CC.OO had called for a blockade of all Moroccan exports transiting Spain and called fishermen to prevent the unloading of Moroccan fish sold in Spain.
