Ambassador Abouayoub meets group of french MPs on Sahara
Moroccan ambassador to France Hassan Abouayoub met in Paris Wednesday French MPS from the Moroccan Sahara Study Group within the French National Assembly.
The diplomat recalled the genesis and developments of the issue underscoring Moroccan efforts to settle it in conformity with international law and usher in stability, integration and economic growth in the region.
He also recalled how the kingdom led the way in calling for a referendum and that the other side is making the process drag denying the right to vote to genuine Sahrawis meeting all UN criteria. Morocco, he explained, is ready for a referendum if all those eligible are allowed to vote, as it is ready to explore another possibility as suggested by the UN secretary general's special envoy James Baker.
The diplomat also contrasted human rights breakthroughs in Morocco and the total lack of respect, from the other side, for international law with daily ruthless repression and abuse against people detained in Tindouf and deprived of the right to return home in violation of international conventions.
