On relations between Syria and Lebanon

Former Lebanese President Amin al-Gemayel has stated that the presence of President Bashar al-Assad as head of the authority in Syria strengthens the possibility of reaching a fundamental treatment of problems debated at the level of Syrian- Lebanese relations.

In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am issued on Monday al-Gemayel added it is very necessary to break the link between the Syrian- Lebanese strategic relations which should be strengthened and between the Syrian position and its ties to details of the Lebanese daily political life.

He asserted that he has been demanding relations that ensure the interests of the two states based on fraternity and strengthening of cooperation between the two sisterly peoples.
