UNDP, Moroccan association sign accord on renewable energies
The UN Development Program (UNDP) and the Moroccan association GERERE (study and research group on renewable energies and environment) signed here Tuesday a partnership accord on renewable energies.
Under the accord, the micro-financing program of the world environment fund, stemming from the UNDP, will contribute to renewable energy projects in the rural world dubbed "energy houses" (maisons d'energie).
According to a UNDP document, nearly 50 energy houses, which are micro-enterprises specialized in supplying energy-related services, will be set up early 2001 and 100 more will be created in 2002.
GERERE was set up in 1992 in Rabat but its activities as an informal group of university researchers and technicians started as early as 1984.
