India Reaffirms Support To Palestinian People

Originally published

India reaffirmed its support to the Palestinian people in their legitimate aspirations for peace and justice and their inalienable right to a homeland, says a message by Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The embassy of India in Rabat sent MAP copy of the message carried by President of the Indo-arab Friendship Association to the event staged November 29 in New York. The message goes on to say "Our civilizational links and historical bonds with the Palestinian people span centuries. We have, therefore, a clear understanding of their struggle and an unwavering sympathy for their cause."

Premier Vajpayee voiced his country's conviction that dialogue is the only viable option in the search for a just, durable and comprehensive peace settlement in West Asia (Middle East) and deep concern at the recent cycle of violence, killing of innocent civilians and excessive use of force. "The imperative need is for restraint, for avoidance of provocation and for return to the peace process" he said adding "diplomacy and statesmanship have to prevail over hatred and violence" because "there is no other road to lasting peace."

The message concluded "We are convinced that the national aspirations of the Palestinian people, which have remained unfulfilled for so long, will be realized under the leadership of President Yasir Arafat. India rededicates itself to solidarity with the Palestinian people for realization of their long cherished goals."
