Originally published

Over 9,000 Iraqis, mostly children, have died in the month of October alone as a result of the international embargo enforced against Iraq since August 1990. The Iraqi health ministry said no less than 6,337 children aged below five and 3,202 adults have died from various diseases such as diarrhea, heart and respiratory conditions and malnutrition.

Last July, the ministry said the number of the embargo victims exceeded 1.3 million, mostly children.
