Moroccan Jewish singer jailed for currency smuggling
A Casablanca court on Monday sentenced Moroccan Jewish singer, Cohen Benhass, to three years in jail for "attempt to illegally smuggle currencies."
Benhass, a pop music singer, was arrested last October 24 at the Casablanca airport, with 475,000 French Francs, concealed in his socks and under-wear.
A police search at the singer's house found another $360,000 in different currencies.
The Moroccan law bans the holding of foreign currency without legal permission
The Casablanca court also sentenced Benhass to pay more than $ 14.7 million to the customs administration.
