OIC summit urged to sever all ties with Israel, US to play honest role
The 9th Summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC on Monday called for severing all relations with Israel and also denounced Israel for its continued criminal aggression against the Palestinian people, a statement on Jerusalem and the Intifada said.
The statement added " the leaders invite member states which have established relations with Israel, or are taking steps towards establishing ties with Israel within the framework of the ME peace process to sever these relations and to stop all forms of normalization until Israel complies accordingly and honestly with the UN resolutions relating to Palestine and the holy Jerusalem."
The OIC statement deplored the Israeli" brutal aggression against the Palestinian people as a premeditated act and a part of a consistent Israeli policy to impose the status quo and Judaize the holy city of Jerusalem.
In their statement, the leaders of the summit said that they would act against any attempt by the US to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, saying statements by the US Congress recognizing Israel's claim to the holy city were a " flagrant challenge t the sentiments of Muslims and Christians alike." They affirmed their countries' determination to cut relations with any country that moves its embassy to the holy city of Jerusalem or recognizes it as the capital of Israel.
The statement also urged the US administration to revise its biased stand, which prevents UN Security Council from shouldering its responsibilities, representing a flagrant violation of the UN charters.
It also supported the calls advocated by the Palestinians and the Arabs for the formation of a UN peace keeping force to protect Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
It stressed that the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people is considered an outrageous violations of the Palestinian human rights and an international breach of the international laws, charters and treaties, which necessitate calling on the US to take a just, honest and human stand.
The summit underlined the Islamic leaders' condemnation of such systematic violations of human rights perpetrated by the Israeli occupation particularly the collective genocide and punishments, the demolition of houses and the closure of the whole Palestinian areas.
The Muslim leaders also condemned the Israeli systematic confiscation of Palestinian territories and expansion in settlement building, especially in the city of Jerusalem, which is considered a violation of the 4th Geneva agreement in 1949 which viewed the settlements as illegal.
The OIC leaders also stressed that no one could go on with a political process based on the land for peace formula while Israel continues its settlement policy.
The statement asserted that the leaders pledge to continue exerting their utmost efforts and mobilizing all the Islamic potentials to serve the Arab nation's issues, supporting the Palestinian people's struggle to restore their lands, returning the refugees, establishing their state and keeping all the Christian and Islamic shrines in Palestine.
The statement expressed the Arab leaders' backing for the recent Arab summit held in October 21 and 22 and its decisions concerning the setting up of two funds to maintain Jerusalem's Arab and Islamic identity and taking care of the families of the martyrs.
It also called the OIC member states to contribute to financing these two funds. The statement demanded the world's countries to commit to the UN Security Council resolution no. 478 of 1980 that provides for not moving diplomatic missions to Jerusalem.
They stressed the need of exerting continued international mass media to unmask the violation of Palestinians human rights, to mobilize international solidarity and sympathy with the palestinian people in their legitimate struggle.
The leaders demanded the formation of a neutral international investigation committee in implementation of the UN security council resolution 1322/ 2000 on the Israeli massacres committed against the palestinian people.
The OIC leaders also stressed that a just and comprehensive peace in the ME needs a full israeli withdrawal from all occupied Palestinian and Arab lands, including the holy city of Jerusalem, the Syrian Golan heights up to June 4, 1967 border lines and the Lebanese territories that are still under the Israeli occupation, noting that this will be in implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 338 and 425 and the land for peace formula. They also stressed their rejection of any deviation from the bases and principles of the peace process and they demanded the US not to respond to any Israeli proposals which are not in conformity with the international legitimacy. The OIC leaders also voiced their full support for the Palestinian stand against any attempts to dictate any conditional, unfair and unacceptable settlements
