Socialist International calls Sahara two sides to political dialog
The Socialist International (SI) Council adopted a resolution in its meeting in Maputo, Nov.10-11, launching an appeal to both sides of the Sahara issue asking them to open "a political dialog reaching beyond agreements which could be reached in negotiations under way."
The SI voiced deep concern over postponement of the referendum, re-affirmed its resolution of April 2000 in Brussels and made an appeal to the two sides to "fully cooperate with the United Nations and their special envoy, M. James Baker."
In the Berlin meeting held under Baker's aegis, Morocco voiced readiness to open and sincere dialog with the other side to seek a lasting and final settlement to the Sahara issue with decentralizing policy and taking into account the kingdom's territorial integrity.
