Originally published

Morocco is among a number of countries claiming the repatriation of children who were smuggled into Italy and adopted by Italian families.

According to the Italian news agency ANSA, Albania, Bosnia, Morocco, and Rwanda conducted diplomatic moves requiring the repatriation to their native country of unaccompanied minor children who took refuge in Italy.

ANSA, quoting figures by the Italian ministry of social affairs, said the number of these foreign children is over 5,051, including 452 Moroccans. The largest number of these UMS come from Albania (3,121), and 87% of them are male children. 2.1% of the UMS are aged below 6 and 30.4 % are about 17. Nearly 1,031 UMS, i.e. 25.7 %, have in the mean time come of age.
