On Butaflika's visit to Libya

The Algerian President Abd El-Aziz Bu Taflika visited the night before last Tripoli where he held talks with the Libyan President Moammar al-Qaddafi.

The Libyan radio broadcasted that the two leaders discussed means of enhancing the bilateral relations and the situation in the African continent as well as the current Arab stance.

Qaddafi did not participated in the Arab summit and he denounced the results of the summit which he depicted of being weak.

The Algerian daily Sawt al-Ahrar has explained the urgent meeting held by the Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika to Libya to meet with President Muammar al-Qaddafi, who boycotted the Arab summit, on that President Butaflika is not pleased with the attitude taken by the summit's final statement despite the apparent commitment of the Algerian president to Arab consensus.

In its last page editorial, under the title " was Butaflika angry?," the paper added that such explanation can be understood in the abstention of President Butaflika to deliver his speech before the summit as other Arab leaders did.

The paper continued that Butaflika did not read his speech to the audience and that his visit to Libya was a diplomatic expression of his protest to the decision of the Arab summit in his own special way of supporting al-Qaddafi's stand despite his opposition in form to al-Qaddafi. Al-Qaddafi, four days before the summit in an interview with al-Jazira TV, leaked the final draft statement of the Arab summit.
