Arab summit sets up two funds to back Palestinian cause
The Arab extraordinary summit, which wound up Sunday here, set up two $ 1 billion funds to back the struggle of the Palestinian people.
The first fund, named Al-Aqsa Fund after the holy mosque in Al-Quds (Jerusalem), is endowed with a budget of $ 800 million to finance projects meant to preserve the Arab and Islamic identity of the holy city of Al-Quds against the Israeli judaization policy. The fund will also contribute to consolidating the Palestinian economic autonomy.
The second fund, dubbed the Intifada (uprising) Fund, has a $ 200 million capital and is destined to the families of the victims of the Palestinians Intifada.
Saudi Arabia undertook to contribute 25 % of the capital of the two funds.
The Arab heads of state also adopted a mechanism instituting periodic meetings of the summit and decided to hold the next summit in Jordan next March.
They further voiced will to face up the Israeli attempts to infiltrate in the Arab World and to stop all forms of relations with Israel.
The summit also called for the creation of an independent international commission, under the aegis of the United Nations, to investigate the deterioration of the situation in the Palestinian occupied territories and the killings perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian and Israeli forces.
The Arab leaders likewise called on the UN security council to set up a penal court to try the Israeli war criminals.
A fair and global peace cannot see the light in the region without the return of Al-Quds under Palestinian sovereignty, the recognition of the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds as capital, and the liberation of the Syrian Golan heights and the remaining Lebanese territories.
The Cairo summit lauded the decisions made the Al-Quds Committee, especially those taken during the committee's latest meeting in the Moroccan southern city of Agadir.
The Committee, chaired by King Mohammed VI, seeks to defend the Arab and Islamic identity of Al-Quds.
