OIC ready to host emergency ministerial meeting on Palestine
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) says it is ready to host an emergency meeting of member countries foreign ministers on the explosive situation prevailing in Palestinian territories, reported the Iranian news agency IRNA.
IRNA quoted the organization secretary general Azeddine Laraki as saying OIC was paving the meeting called for by Iran which chairs the Islamic organization through December 2000. President Mohammad Khatami had called on Oct 4 for an emergency meeting to make a "coordinated move" against Israel.
In a meeting here Friday with Laraki, foreign affairs minister Kamal Kharazi said the Moslem World is waiting for "clear and firm statements of support to Palestine."
