Morocco calls for protection of Palestinian rights
Morocco has called for the protection of Palestinian rights and appealed the Human Rights Commission to actively contribute to the defense of the Palestinian people's rights mainly through the establishment of responsibilities in the recent violent acts targeting the civilian populations in the occupied territories.
Morocco which renewed its attachment to the virtues of dialogue and consultation called the parties concerned by the Middle East peace process to spare no effort to fulfil the legitimate aspirations of the peoples of the region.
This came in an address Wednesday by Morocco's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Nacer Benjelloun Touimi, before the special session of the Human rights Commission, summoned at the request of Arab countries and devoted to the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Moroccan diplomat expressed hope that this special session would end in practical results and would efficiently contribute to the protection of the Palestinian people's human rights.
He denounced the excessive use of force by Israel against Palestinian civilians saying "the anger and indignation spontaneously voiced (by the Palestinians) had been violently quelled by a blind and disproportionate resort to force and use of heavy military means." The images of slaughtered Palestinian children disseminated daily by the media are unbearable and unacceptable, he said. No reason and no explanation whatsoever can justify such acts that violate the most basic right, the right to live.
Morocco, he added, shares the sorrow of the bereaved families and vehemently condemns the acts of violence against the Palestinian civilians.
The diplomat who called the commission to contribute, through its various implements, to the defense of the Palestinian people's human rights said responsibilities ought to be clearly established if the repetition of the tragedy is to averted. It is likewise needed to firmly condemn the Israeli policy of Palestinian land confiscation and dwellings destruction and Israeli settlements construction.
After he surveyed the actions initiated by Morocco to back the Palestinian people and denounce the Israeli aggression, the diplomat said Morocco hopes that the results reached at Sharm El-Sheikh would enable a progressive return to calm and consequently the resumption of the peace process.
