Washington closes down its diplomatic missions in 12 Arab states
The US on Thursday closed its embassies and consulates in 12 Arab states until next week because of the demonstrations that can be organized in protest of the bloody confrontation between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
In a statement, the US state department said: due to the possibility of organizing more demonstrations against US installations in the region, all our embassies and consulates in the region will be closed down before the public until next week and these missions will open their doors on Monday or Tuesday.
On the other hand members of the diplomatic crops were called on not to send their children to schools during that period. This measure covers the US embassies and consulates in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, the UAE and Yemen.
The two US diplomatic missions in Israel- the embassy in Tel Aviv and the consulate in Jerusalem were kept open " to run necessary matters only."
