Former war leader calls for not recognizing new Somali president
Former Somali leader Hussein Muhammad Aideed on Sunday called on the international community not to recognize the new Somali President Abdul Qasem Salat Hasan, considering that such a recognition will lead to a new conflict in Somalia.
In a statement to AFP Aideed announced that recognizing Salat Hassan constitutes what he has called a new civil conflict in Somalia and a perpetuation for what he called security disorder in the African horn, SANA reported.
He called on the international community responsible for the consequences.
He added he will never recognize Abdul Qasem Salat Hassan and his parliament as a legislative authority in Somalia, noting that he is ( Salat Hassan) is a mere leader of a group and that what is called a parliament is considered his own property.
Aideed boycotted Arta's conference which was held recently and threatened to make any thing to prevent the formation of a central government in the country which is drastically in need since 1991. He called on the UN Security Council not to permit giving non- humanitarian funding to Salat Hassan who may use it in what he has called " military confrontation."
