Morocco, European Union resume fish negotiations thursday
Morocco and the European Union will resume here this September 28-29 dialogue on fisheries after Morocco refused last November to renew the agreement binding it to the Union expired.
For European agriculture and fisheries commissioner, Franz Fishler, who welcomed the resumption of the negotiations, it will be an opportunity for the two sides to expound their opinion on new partnership in fisheries.
Morocco argues that direct fishing by some 600 European trawlers, mainly Spanish, has exhausted its sea riches and wants, instead, a new partnership formula that would safeguard sea resources.
Since last November, European trawlers, including 400 from Spain, were forced to moor after Morocco announced it will not renew the same form of agreement.
