To keep their reputations, Swedish companies withdraw from financing Turkish dam
The British daily Financial Times stressed in its Tuesday's issue that the group of Swedish construction companies known as " Shanska" has withdrawn from the project to finance the Eleiso dam that Turkey will build on the Tigris river in southern Turkey.
In a report for its political affairs correspondent Kevin Brown the paper said: the Swedish company which was negotiating with supervisors of the Turkish dam project withdrew from the project because of problems in the negotiations resulted from objections raised by environmental supporters and human rights groups against building the dam which will damage the environment and displace hundreds thousands of citizens.
Worthy mentioning that several British, Swedish, Swiss and Italian companies had negotiated with the Turkish construction company to discuss the financing of the controversial Eleiso dam.
The British paper explained that the Swedish company withdrew from the project of building the dam in order to preserve their international reputation, adding that this project was widely criticized because of its adverse effects on neighboring countries.
