Isreali anxiety toward success of Syria's experiment in long- range missiles

Originally published

Ihud Barak, the Israeli prime minister, expressed his worry concerning the Syrian successful experiment of a surface-to-surface missile with a range of 500 kilometers.

Barak said "his country is completely aware of the Syrian efforts to modernize its missiles," assuring that the Israeli army will resume its readiness to confront any possibilities.

Israeli deputy defense minister Afream Seneh depicted said in declarations to the Israeli Radio army that these missiles are very dangerous especially if equipped with non traditional warheads, yet he assured that Israel is capable of establishing an effective defensive system by manufacturing its Geptez missiles which are an Israeli version of the U.S Arrow missile.

The Israeli Haaretz newspaper said yesterday that the Syrian missile is surface-to-surface Scud-D produced by Northern Korea and that it was launched toward a dessert area north east Syria, adding that the missile's range enables the Syrian army to establish launching basis in the depth of the Syrian lands.
