Postponement of palestinian state proclamation serves palestinian cause, ambassador
The postponement of the proclamation of the Palestinian State was decided in the interest of the Palestinian cause and in response to the advice of friendly countries, said Palestinian ambassador to Rabat, Abu Marwane.
The diplomat told the Moroccan TV channel 2M that the proclamation of the State of Palestine is a legitimate right, is guaranteed by the UN charter and is conform to international legality.
The proclamation of the State of Palestine was initially scheduled for September 13 as the interim period of Palestinian autonomy expired.
The diplomat said the proclamation has not been postponed (for ever) but was delayed at the latest for the end of the current year. He explained that the proclamation or postponement depend on various elements that were examined by the central council of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) at its latest meeting.
The postponement is meant to give a new chance to international efforts to exert pressures on Israel and force it to withdraw from the territories occupied in 1967 and from the holy city of Jerusalem (Al-Quds) that will be, he said, the capital of the independent Palestinian State.
The diplomat recalled that the Palestinian State proclaimed in 1988 by the PLO had been recognized by more countries than those which recognized Israel.
