Energy and mining minister meets Spanish official

Energy and mining minister Youssef Tahiri met in Rabat Friday visiting Spanish secretary of state to foreign affairs.

Tahiri underscored existing cooperation in the fields of energy, mining, geology as well as promising prospects of for partnership in economic and financial realms. He listed major undertakings such as gas-supply to the kingdom, wind-generated energy in Tangier, electricity procurement and electricity supply to rural areas. He also invited Spanish firms to invest in oil prospecting under favorable terms provided by the newly adopted hydrocarbons code.

The minister also surveyed major aspects of bilateral cooperation in mining and geology and said the visit of King Mohammed VI to Spain early in the fall will help consolidate cooperation in all these sectors.

The Spanish official voiced satisfaction at the level of exchanges and said he would step up efforts to further involve Spanish operators for wider cooperation in energy and mining.
