Kuwaiti nation's council approves border agreement with Saudi Arabia
The Kuwaiti official news agency KUNA reported that the Kuwaiti nation council approved on Wednesday the border agreement signed on July 2nd with Saudi Arabia.
The agency added "the Kuwaiti nation's council, unanimously approved today ( Wednesday) the draft law pertinent to sea border demarcation between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia over the area adjoining the divided area." The Kuwaiti government approved this agreement on July 9 while the Saudi government approved it on July 10th. After the two sides exchanged the signed documents, the agreement will become valid.
The agreement states sea border demarcation in the area where al-Darra gas field is situated. An area over which also Iran claims supremacy.
The conflict over this area emerged in May when al-Riyadh and Kuwait protested against excavation works carried out by Iran in the said gas field.
