Originally published

Ethiopian soldiers have withdrawn from the Eritrean Ksaad Eika village, situated on the central front and passed Mereib river which used to separate between the two countries before the beginning of war between them in 1998.

The spokesman for Eritrea's Presidency Yamani Germiskil said that the soldiers withdrew last Sunday and crossed Merieb river which is five KM to the south.

The spokesman added that the Ethiopian forces left the village out of fears of floods in the river at the rainfall season. A matter which would make supplying them with foodstuffs very difficult.

Worthy mentioning Eritrea and Ethiopia signed on June 18 in Algiers a cease- fire agreement states for the withdrawal of the Ethiopian army from Eritrea and the deployment of a UN peace keeping force in a sector extended along 25 Km inside the Eritrea's territories. The agreement did not set a date for the redeployment of this force or the number of its staff.
