Morocco's King Mohammed VI stressed the need to cement the centuries-old ties of brotherhood binding the Moroccan and the Algerian peoples.

This came in a congratulations message King Mohammed VI sent to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria on the occasion of his country's national day.

"We are confident, excellency, that you share with our Majesty the unshakable conviction as to the need to use this shared historical heritage to cement the centuries-old ties of brotherhood existing between our two peoples," the king said.

The king also underlined the necessity to foster solidarity, cooperation and complementarity "to win the stake of building our Arab Maghreb, as a testimony of loyalty to the ideals of liberation, unity and solidarity, aware in this of the paramount importance to construct a dynamic regional grouping likely to take up the challenges of the era of powerful groupings," King Mohammed VI insisted.

Both Morocco and Algeria are member of the Arab Maghreb Union alongside Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania.
