The Moroccan government intervenes whenever Moroccan expatriates in Spain are subject to acts harmful to human rights, said on Tuesday Moroccan minister of social development, solidarity, employment and vocational training and spokesman for government, Khalid Alioua.

In a press briefing following a government council meeting, Alioua said that Moroccan consular and diplomatic authorities in Spain as well as departments of foreign affairs, of interior and of employment are closely following the living conditions of the Moroccan community settled in Spain and intervene to defend their interests.

To a question on Morocco's stance regarding the new law on immigration that Spain intends to implement in the few coming months, the Moroccan official said that besides Morocco's support, the Moroccan community "are firmly defending their rights."

He noted that every country is sovereign and free to take decisions, adding that what matters more for Morocco is the convention on labor force signed last year between the two countries.
