Originally published

A colloquium on "the Kingdom of Morocco between tradition and modernity," held here June 17-18, launched a call to make of the Mediterranean basin a meeting point of civilizations and monotheist religions and a permanent frame of free movement of persons and consolidation of cultural and economic cooperation.

The colloquium, sponsored by the France-based institute for the development of economic and cultural exchanges with Morocco, highlighted the importance of dialogue between cultures and religions and their role in propagating culture, peace, co-habitation and defense of human dignity and solidarity between peoples.

In an opening address, Moroccan Prime Minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, surveyed the changes underway in the kingdom that are geared towards the establishment of "political, economic and social modernity," saying Morocco is operating these changes "in its own way, at its own pace," and that while doing so it sticks to its identity and peculiarities.

The Prime minister also surveyed the efforts being made to consolidate democracy and the rule of the law, promote public freedoms and improve public affairs management.
