Egypt's First Lady heads forum on women's political participation
Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak, Head of the National Council for Women, presides over the second intellectual forum on "women's participation in political life "to be held next June," as a first step to promote women's political role both as a candidate and elector.
The forum will be followed by intensive media activity to sustain women's presence on the political arena.
Mrs. Mubarak leads Egypt's delegation to UN General Assembly Session. She will lead Egypt's delegation to the UN General Assembly session, slated for June 5, to follow up on recommendations of the Fourth International Conference on Women held in the Chinese Capital in 1995.
"The UN Session aims at making available political will and international commitment to improving women conditions," said Egypt's Permanent Delegate to the UN Ambassador Ahmad Abul-Gheit.
"Participants will endeavor to map out strategies and new initiatives on enhancing the role of women in the 21st century," he added.
Abul-Gheit highlighted continued improvement in women's conditions in Egypt, citing a presidential decree on setting up the National Council for Women chaired by Mrs. Mubarak.
