Originally published

Moroccan interior minister, Ahmed El Midaoui, met in Rabat Wednesday British trade secretary, Richard Caborn, who is visiting Morocco this May 16-18 at the head of a business delegation.

The two officials underscored the excellent friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries and reviewed means to promote a more fruitful and efficient cooperation.

Talks also probed prospects of supporting and encouraging British private investments in Morocco. The same issues were also reviewed at a British official's meeting with trade, industry and handicraft minister, Alami Tazi.

With $ 586.9 Mln of British exports and $ 657.6 Mln of imports, The UK is Morocco's 3rd largest export market and Morocco's 6th largest market.

Moroccan imports from the UK consist mainly of apparel items, clothing accessories, textile yarn, fabrics, machinery, vehicles, telecommunication and sound-recording equipment. Morocco exports inorganic chemicals, vegetables and fruits, fertilizes and fish.

Caborn is also scheduled to visit a leather factory which employs 2,500 persons and supplies quality clothing for British and European brands.

In Rabat, he opened a British business, PPT, that tests fabrics for the textile industry, the first in what the project promoters hope will be an international chain of businesses.
