Morocco, Togo debate parliamentary cooperation

Originally published

Ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and Togo topped talks held in Rabat between speaker of the Moroccan chamber of advisors (upper house of parliament), Mohammed Jalal Essaid, and visiting Barry Moussa Barque, special advisor of the Togolese president.

The Moroccan speaker stressed Morocco's will to be present in Africa although it left the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and recalled efforts made by the kingdom to develop relations with all African states.

Morocco quit OAU in the early 1980's to protest the illegal admission of the so-called Sahrawi republic, which claims sovereignty over Morocco's southern provinces.

The Togolese official was received by King Mohammed VI to whom he handed a message from President Gnassingbe Eyadema.
