Difficulties facing peace process on various tracks
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Yesterday received Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and discussed the latest developments on the Palestinian track in the light of the Palestinian Israeli negotiations held in Eilat last week, and the talks held between President Mubarak and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.
Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat briefed President Mubarak on the latest developments on the Palestinian track and outcome of Eilat talks which stopped on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said.
Moussa disclosed that Egypt will hold contacts with Israel and the US the main sponsor of the Middle East peace process.
Arafat said during the talks that the matter needed a push as no progress has been achieved.
The situation on various tracks has become a source of concern, Moussa said adding that a number of meetings and contacts will be held for Egyptian- Palestinian coordination.
We all work in a bid to contain major difficulties facing the peace process on various tracks, he added.
Moussa said, in reply to a question, that the aim of contacts that Egypt will hold with various parties is to solve the peace process in the light of difficulties that it faces various tracks.
Speaking of the Principle of Land for Peace, Moussa underlined that it means that "all lands for all peace and not" some land for all peace, because that would be unreasonable and impossible and would not lead to real peace.
Nothing presented now could be considered as a practical step to be taken within the coming days including the date mentioned, he said.
It is the second or third time that dates are mentioned but were not practically abided by, Moussa added.
This is part of major difficulties that the Palestinian: track faces in addition to others on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks, and he warned that if the present situation continued, it would be difficult to reach agreement, Moussa expounded.
If these obstacles are tackled and things brought back the right track within the peace process bases and Israel commitment, there would be hope for declaring in September Palestinian State on Palestinian lands from which Israel supposed and required to withdraw, Moussa pointed out.
