Torture- victims rehab association discloses action program
The Moroccan torture-victims rehabilitation association "ARVT" met the press Wednesday in Casablanca and disclosed their action program and the launching of a center in Casablanca to cater for the needs of torture-victims.
The association meant to help torture-victims adapt and integrate normal life said the center, a model for the region, will provide assistance to victims of torture, as defined by international conventions, and their families.
ARVT is planning to draw lists of torture-victims and strike partnerships for concerted action with departments such as public health and human rights as well as with domestic associations and international organizations. It will be backing-up social medical care and staging events for the celebration of the international day against torture on June 26.
The association was born in Feb. 2000 at the initiative of human rights activists from the medical profession to help victims of torture, cruel or debasing treatment and see to their reinsertion in normal socio-professional activity.
