Students investigated inciting violence
People's Assembly Religious, Social and Endowment Committee dismissed as blasphemous Syrian novelist's "A Banquet of Seaweed".
The Committee called for the immediate confiscation of the novel and all the copies in the market.
The Committee said the book features parts that are very much transgressing to Islamic sanctities and higher values.
"Egypt's President, government and citizens cannot in any way allow any violation of society codes and laws especially if it relates to religion," the Committee added.
Committee members recommended that any new book tackling religious issues should be referred by the censors to Al-Azhar.
Meanwhile, the State supreme Security Prosecution Tuesday started investigations with 75 students from Azhar University over the protests they had staged on Sunday and Monday.
The prosecution charged the suspects with several counts, including riots, resistance of authorities and vandalism.
A team from the prosecution went to the Health Insurance hospitals, Nasr City at an earlier time to question 15 wounded suspects.
The police had fired tear gas to contain the protests, causing the injury of some students who were stoning the police. The remaining suspects are under arrest.
