Slump in Moroccan exports due to weaker euro against US dollar

Originally published

The recent decrease in Moroccan exports towards Europe is mainly accounted to the weakening of the European currency against the US dollar, said trade, industry and handicraft minister Alami Tazi.

Tazi told the Senate house Tuesday the slump does not have anything to do with dirham value and blamed the negative trend of exports on grounds lost by the Euro to a strong dollar.

The central bank governor, he added, is to meet operators in the export sector to probe means to make up for losses and reactivate shipments of Moroccan goods to Europe.
