Iraqi paper warns against Kuwaiti provocation
The Iraqi daily al-Thawra on Sunday warned Kuwait and called on it "to give up aggressions and provocations against Iraq," asserting that such similar provocations were behind what had taken place in August, 1990.
The Iraqi paper, in particular, protested against the US and British planes using Kuwaiti bases to monitor the "no-fly zone" in southern Iraq. This zone is not recognized by Iraq, and no resolution concerning it was issued by the UN Security Council.
The paper also considered the US-Kuwaiti military maneuvers near the Iraqi borders and provoking the Iraqi fishing boats and fishermen by confiscating their identity cards and insulting them as flagrant provocative acts in terms of international relations.
Al-Thawra added that such acts are not justified and that the rulers of Kuwait are demanded by all considerations to stop them and to avoid their possible negative consequences.
The Iraqi paper asserted that all these "inquiries are placed by Iraq before the people of Kuwait, the Arab Gulf states, the Arab governments especially the Arab League as well as before the general secretariat of the UN and the security council so as all these sides will recommend the Kuwaiti rulers to give up carrying out such a 'minor' role."
