Amnesty International delegation visits Algeria

Originally published

A three-member team affiliated to Amnesty International started a 10-day visit to Algeria today.

A spokesman from the organization said the team will meet officials in the Algerian Foreign Ministry before holding talks with the ministers of justice and the interior.

Amnesty International, which takes London as its headquarters, is one of four international human rights organizations that received an invitation from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to visit Algeria after a four-year embargo.

Sources in Amnesty International said the organization has proof concerning human rights violations that took place in Algeria carried out by the Algerian security forces and Islamic rebels.
