EU set to make new fishery proposals

Originally published

The European Union is set to make new proposals to Morocco on the renewal of a bilateral fisheries agreement, reported Moroccan daily Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki.

The European commissioner for agriculture and fishery, Franz Fischler told the European Parliament committee that the EU is convinced that a new agreement with Rabat should meet Morocco's claims with regard to the modernization of the sector and preservation of its sea resources, the daily said.

Morocco refuses to renew the accord that expired end of last November, arguing that the present cooperation forms do not help safeguard the country's sea riches.

Fischler announced that he would meet in April Moroccan premier Abderrahman Youssoufi to discuss issues related to fisheries.
